Council Experience
As Councillor and Convener of Culture and Sport (2012-2017) I:
-
Led the winning £25 million bid to bring the National Performance Centre for Sport to Edinburgh
-
Steered the £7.5 million project to create Edinburgh's first specialist cycling facility at Hunters Hall Park
-
Steered the Meadowbank renovation plans through the council
-
Persuaded my colleagues to support the £650k purchase of Custom House as a vital cultural asset for the city
-
Led the campaign to invest £5 million in the renovation of the King's Theatre
5 Years in a senior council post means I have a proven track record in:
-
Handling the media - with regular television and press interviews
-
Experience of coalition politics - negotiating and working with other parties
-
Delivering politically at a high level - as you can see from the points listed above
"I worked with Richard on the Council between 2012 and 2017 and have full confidence he will be an effective councillor for the area.
He is a good collaborator, works hard for his constituents and proved a real asset to the Council Coalition Administration."
Cllr. Denis Dixon, Sighthill/Gorgie
