About Richard
I was educated at James Gillespie's High School and Oxford and Edinburgh Universities and worked as a freelance musician for the best part of 20 years: in countries as diverse as Germany, Ireland, Australia, Denmark and Hungary.
Elected to the Council in 2012, I was the only SNP candidate to unseat a sitting Labour Councillor - the first time this was ever achieved at council level in Edinburgh.
Supporting the city's rich historical environment and cultural and sporting infrastructure remains a priority for me - both for its own sake, but also because of the importance of persuading former 'NO' voters that the SNP is a safe pair of hands to take Edinburgh forward as a future dynamic and independent European capital city.
I joined the SNP in 1995 - this year will be my 27th year as a party member - and have fought over 13 campaigns in this time, including three as candidate: for Meadows and Morningside in 2007, Liberton and Gilmerton in 2010 before successfully taking Colinton and Fairmilehead in 2012.
By profession I am a musician and theatre maker. I am also a guest lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow and Napier University in Edinburgh. I volunteer at the St. Columba's hospice shop on Morningside Road and chair two small charities. I am a Hungarian as well as UK citizen and have two young children who attend James Gillespie's Primary School.

"As a leading figure in the Poles for Yes campaign I worked closely with Richard during 2014.
His many years of working abroad and understanding how other nations interpret Scotland and our standing in the world will be a great asset as a councillor."
